A week of firsts

This week we started Cameron on rice cereal. He was not a fan. He made the cutest "yuck" face ever though! We're thinking it's more the feeling of something in his mouth than the actual taste of it because it seems like it wouldn't taste like anything or at the very least there's no way it could taste as bad as formula. He only tolerated a few tiny blobs of the cereal the first couple feedings. Now he's worked up to a few spoonfuls. He still makes the "yuck" face but he keeps trying it so that's good.

Hmm... That looks interesting

Dad? What's about to happen?

Help. Me.

Oh no. Here comes more.

Yuck.

Still yuck.

Monday marked our first Mommy and Me thing together. We went to baby story time at the library. It was fun and cute and thankfully only 20 minutes long! At first I thought, "Only 20 minutes?" but now I realize any longer than that and we would have had a crying fest on our hands. Definitely by the end of 20 minutes the babies were done with it. The 1 and 2 year olds probably could have gone another 10 minutes.

Not sure what he felt or thought about the whole thing. He was mainly just interested in his shoes and trying to get them off. We sat next to a little girl around the same age as Cameron who would lean over and babble and smile at him. Cameron was unfazed. He'd shoot her an "I'm busy here" glance and then it was back to his shoes.

Next up- swim lessons! This Saturday is the first of an 8 week baby swim course. I'm sure there will be no actual swimming but rather just a little feet, legs and baby bum dunking into the water. Not sure about the baby swim diaper thing. Do you just slap it on and you're good to go? Aren't you left with a nasty, sopping wet blob? I guess I'm about to find out!

Of course pics and a post of the event to follow...

Toothfairy pillow

Put together this super simple tooth fairy pillow for your little one. It's also an easy craft project for the kids.

All you need are:

2 pieces of white felt,
1 piece of black felt
Black embroidery floss
Pillow stuffing
A glue gun or white glue if you're doing this as a craft with kids.

First make a template for your tooth on a piece of paper. You can see that it took me a few tries to get the right size and shape.

Trace it onto the felt and cut both sides of the tooth out.

Cut a small square from the white felt to make the pocket on the back for your little one to leave their tooth and for the fairy to place the money.

Next cut out the eyes. You can shape them any way you like! I chose to do a more cartoon-y face but a cute, peaceful face would be sweet too! Don't forget to cut out the eyebrows- if you want them.

Then cut the mouth out of the black felt and each individual tooth for it. Of course, just like the eyes you can make the mouth any shape. You don't need to do the teeth either, although I do love the missing teeth look! A pair of red lips would look cute too. Make your pillow as silly or sweet looking as you like.

It took me a few secs to figure out how to cut the teeth to fit my mouth perfectly. I started with the black mouth outline, then I used the black mouth as a template cutting out a white one of the same size.

Cut 1/8" off the sides making it smaller so that it fits inside the black. Draw in the teeth and cut on the inside of each side of the lines. This makes each tooth smaller, allowing for black to show around each. Then pick which tooth or teeth you want to be missing, take them out and glue the teeth down.

*Notice the small scraps of felt left over from cutting on the inside of each of the lines.*

Now it's time to assemble!

Attach the white square to the back of the tooth by either sewing it on (like I did) or hot gluing it.

Next glue on the eyes, eyebrows and mouth.

Then stitch the two sides of the tooth together using a blanket stitch. If you like, for a sturdier design you can sew the pieces together or hot glue them and then do the blanket stitch for decoration. Before you completely stitch (or glue) the pillow closed stuff it with filling.

Voila! You're done. Now you can accessorize it. You could add a cute little bow and some red lips would be fun!

If you don't know how to do a blanket stitch don't stress! Here's a super succinct and simple tutorial I found on Youtube!

Thank you Faraona-Fiber for being my 120th follower!

Just wanted to give a huge THANK YOU to Faraona-Fiber for becoming my 120th follower!

I had been stuck at 119 for months and months and months and it was driving me crazy! Especially since I'm all about symmetry so the oddness of 119 was just killing me. Yeah, I know that's weird but it's the truth.

Anyhoo... Faraona-Fiber's blog is all Greek to me. Seriously. It's written in Greek or what I've discerned to be Greek since her Google account has the cities Thessaloniki and Athens marked. Luckily for me there's a little English on her site indicating she makes jewels and accessories by using mixed needleweaving and crochet.

I may not be able to read her blog but great work is great work in any language! She does some very fun and funky stuff! Check out these pieces!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Okay, I know that this should have been put up on Saturday but this weekend we were super busy painting and doing some Spring cleaning and organizing that the weekend just blew by. I decided to put it up anyway because I think the pic is just so darn cute! We were standing in line at Joann's Fabric waiting and waiting and waiting as is the norm at that place. Luckily they stock the line chock full of candy, snacks and tons of dollar items and toys to entertain people and rack up those last minute point of sale purchases! Anyway, they had this little leprechaun headband/hat thing so I plopped it on his head and snapped away. A lil leprechaun! He's definitely my pot of gold!

Jason Wu for Target

I have never really shopped for clothes at Target but instantly fell in love with all the pieces featured in the commercial for Jason Wu's new line.

My fav looks from Jason Wu's line for Target.

Jason Wu is a high end fashion designer who shot to stardom when he was tapped to design the dress Michelle Obama wore to the Presidential inaugural ball.

Since I was due for my weekly trip there I thought I'd swing by the apparel department and check it out.

They only had one dress from the commercial at the Target I was at. While I loved the design and shape of it I was surprised at how cheap feeling and looking the fabric was. I know that this is a line in Target and that you "get what you pay for" but you could definitely find a similar dress at a better price (and possibly better fabric) at Forever 21 or H&M. Or for the same price or a little more you could find something similar at Macy's (my all time favorite shopping spot nowadays). Jason Wu for Target dresses range from $30 to $60 with separates running from $20 to $40. Perhaps that one particular dress was a dud, the other pieces could be better?

Oddly enough, I found this pic of Michelle Obama sporting this exact dress from the Target collection! How funny! Looks great on her. Like how she paired a red belt with it and put it over the cardigan. (I know, she looks crazy in this pic. It's actually a screen grab from a video that someone then put along side the Target dress/info.)

Even though my Jason Wu experience was a bust, all was not lost... I found some really cute dresses right next to the Jason Wu stuff by Mossimo, Merona and Xhiliration (regular Target brands). These dresses were all around $20 I think and felt and looked much better than the one Jason Wu dress that I saw.

Check these out. Super cute for Spring and Summer!
